Vermiculite is an organic substrate that is excellent for seed germination, propagation, container gardening and hydroponic growing. It can be used on it's own, or added to potting mix - an easy way to customise your soil mixes to suit specific plants.
This natural substrate is particularly useful for plants that like lots of moisture, as it helps increase water & nutrient retention. It's also great for seedlings, fast growing plants, and any plants that don't tolerate drying out. You can also add vermiculite to heavy soil to improve texture and aeration. Vermiculite doesn't rot or decompose.
Vermiculite particles can be thought of as tiny sponges; they can absorb a lot of water and drain when saturated. Vermiculite is also slow to dry out, meaning moisture is available consistently and for longer. All of which promotes healthy, thriving plants!
