Bio-Char is a charcoal-like substance that absorbs nutrients and houses microbes. It's a substance that acts a bit like a sponge - it sucks up nutrients from it's surroundings. This means you'll want to "charge" it up first, before adding it into your soil (if you don't, it will temporarily steal nutrients from your soil instead!). Bio-Char is very porous, which serves as a perfect home for beneficial microorganisms.
To "charge" your Bio-Char you can add it to compost where it will pull nutrients for later use, or soak it in liquid seaweed or other diluted organic liquid feeds, or something like EM1.
