The beautifully made Hori Hori from Japan’s new Ken Katabami brand — a simple, solid garden knife with a whole lot of clever tucked into its elegant design.

This one’s got that classic Japanese edge — sharp enough for slicing, curved enough for scooping, and versatile enough to weed, transplant, divide perennials or bulbs, and even crack into stubborn pots. The gently concave blade lets you scoop soil, sand or compost with ease, and it’s tough enough to get in and loosen compacted beds or tangle-prone root balls. Basically: a tidy little multitasker.

One edge is honed like a knife, the other has a built-in saw — perfect for sawing through small branches, rope, or roots. And if you're someone who actually likes to plant bulbs at the correct depth (go you), the blade is handily engraved with both centimetres and inches, right down the scooping side.

Made from corrosion-resistant 420J2 stainless steel, the 18.5cm blade is sturdy, strong and rust-resistant, and sits deeply inside a handle made of Japanese magnolia, fixed securely with two rivets. The Ken Katabami ideogram is etched into the blade — a quiet nod to its Japanese craftsmanship.

Comes with a white leather sheath and belt loop so you can keep it on you while you work — just note the loop fits belts up to 4.5cm wide.

Loved worldwide by gardeners who’ve discovered its many uses, this Hori Hori brings precision, practicality and a little bit of Japanese magic to your garden toolkit.
