Designed for precision and control, the Hidehisa Pointed Blade Bud Snipping Scissors — affectionately nicknamed “Pointy” — are a favourite among gardeners who value accuracy and finesse.
Ideal for delicate tasks like pruning new buds, deadheading blooms, thinning fruit and vegetable clusters, or working with succulents, these slender blades offer unmatched precision. In traditional Japanese gardening, tools like this are commonly used for pruning pine needles and gently removing new growth — a technique where quality and feel truly matter.
Unlike lighter versions that struggle beyond soft foliage, these scissors are forged for strength as well as subtlety. Many professionals keep them tucked in the palm while working — their slim profile allows for seamless switching between hand-thinning and fine snipping without missing a beat.
The elongated blades let you reach cleanly through dense foliage, thorns and branches, making them incredibly useful in a range of garden settings.
Hand-forged by skilled craftsmen in Japan’s forge, every pair is made using high-quality carbon steel — designed to last, sharpen beautifully, and feel balanced in the hand.
Features:
– Two-piece high-grade Japanese carbon steel
– Precision sharpening for smooth, accurate cuts
– Ergonomic design for comfort during extended use
Specifications:
- Size: L 17cm W 5.5cm
- Weight: 150g
- Blade Length: 5.7cm
Usage:
- Japanese steel is hard and sharp. To avoid chips and preserve the steel edge, do not cut wire, metal, stone, or plastic.
- Do not twist or apply uneven pressure
- It’s better to cut diagonally across branches (not straight across), so you cut along the fibres
- For heavier cuts, make sure you’re using the base of the blades (not the tips)

Care:
- Always remove sap and leaf resin, rust and gunk with a Rust Eraser and water
- Dry, wipe over with Camellia Oil and store in a dry place
- Sharpen when needed (secateurs can be sharpened every couple of weeks, shears & topiary clippers after every use to see an incredible difference).
- Ensure you keep the blades in good condition with appropriate tool maintenance.
